The Amarna Period refers to the reign of the pharaoh Akhenaten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5c\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16. Akhenaten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5c\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16 is referred to as the heretic pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b, because he changed the entire Egyptian religion from the traditional polytheistic to the monotheistic worship \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udc22 of the Aten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the dramatic religious shift, and the move of the Egyptian capital from Thebes \ud80c\udf00\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude96 to his new capital (aptly named \u201cAkhenaten\u201d), one thing that made the Amarna period quite different was the shift in the art style. Akhenaten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5c\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16 and the royal family were always depicted strangely compared to past Egyptian art styles. Many think this could be due to a genetic connective tissue disease than ran through the family. However, these two \ud80c\udffb pieces show that even the non-royals were also depicted in what is now considered to be typical Amarna style art.
