The answer is both because this image \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf from The Book of the Dead of Imhotep (at the MET) is of the goddess \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udfcf Hathor \ud80c\ude61 in her cow\u00a0\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udd91\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udcd2\u00a0form!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hathor \ud80c\ude61 is one of the most prominent goddesses \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udfcf of the Egyptian pantheon, and her roles evolved over time. Along with Isis \ud80c\udea8\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc65, she is regarded as the \u201cdivine mother\u201d of the pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b, but is also the goddess \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udfcf of love, joy \ud80c\udd2b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd23, music \ud80c\ude54\ud80c\uddcc\ud80c\uddb8 (she was often depicted on sistrums \ud80c\ude83\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfe3\ud80c\udfea), and dance – basically the fun things in life \ud80c\udef9! Hathor is also mentioned as the the wife \ud80c\udc91\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc50 of Horus \ud80c\udd43\ud80c\udc2d, and the daughter \ud80c\udd6d\ud80c\udfcfof Ra \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udffa\ud80c\udc5b, though through times some of these relations have changed\/evolved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 \u201cHathor \ud80c\ude61\u201c in Middle Egyptian translates to \u201cHouse of Horus\u201d which links Hathor \ud80c\ude61 to the sky \ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddef (because the sky \ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddef is where Horus \ud80c\udd43\ud80c\udc2d dwells). Absorbing the roles of pre-dynastic deities, Hathor was associated with both the night \ud80c\udfbc\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd1b sky \ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddef and the Milky Way Galaxy \ud80c\udd1f\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude0a. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another function that Hathor \ud80c\ude61 possessed that  not many are aware of was that she was also a prominent funerary goddess \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udfcf! One of her roles was to provide peace and solace to the souls \ud80c\udc93\ud80c\udc93\ud80c\udc93 of the deceased \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1 as they entered the afterlife \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50. She was referred to as \u201cMistress of the West,\u201d and could be found welcoming the dead \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1 with fresh water \ud80c\ude17.
