Dendur is located in Nubia, and is just south \ud80c\uddd4\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf of Aswan \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udcf9\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfcc\ud80c\udff2\ud80c\ude96.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I find the location of the sphinx \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udced\ud80c\udfe4 an interesting placement in the museum because the temple \ud80c\ude5f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50 and the sphinx \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udced\ud80c\udfe4 are from two \ud80c\udffbvery different time periods in Egyptian history. The temple of Dendur was built by Augustus \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b\ud80c\udc00 and building was completed by 10 B.C.E., &nbsp;while Hatshepsut \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfb9\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd02\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3c\ud80c\udfea ruled \ud80c\udefe during the New Kingdom. This sphinx \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udced\ud80c\udfe4 was sculpted during the joint reign \ud80c\udefe of Hatshepsut \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfb9\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd02\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3c\ud80c\udfea and Thutmosis III&nbsp;\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\udda3&nbsp;c.1479\u20131458 B.C.E.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sphinx \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udced\ud80c\udfe4 was one of six \ud80c\udfff large sphinxes \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udced\ud80c\udfe6 that would have lined her temple \ud80c\ude5f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50 at Deir el-Bahri. It is made of red granite&nbsp;\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udf33\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfb6, which was mined at Aswan \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udcf9\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfcc\ud80c\udff2\ud80c\ude96 and then transported ~500 \ud80c\udff2\ud80c\udff2\ud80c\udff2\ud80c\udff2\ud80c\udff2 miles up the Nile \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude17\ud80c\ude18\ud80c\ude07\ud80c\udffa. Red Granite&nbsp;\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udf33\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfb6&nbsp;is a super dense rock \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udeaa so this was not an easy task!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a large and absolutely beautiful \ud80c\udd24 piece in real life. Hatshepsut \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfb9\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd02\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3c\ud80c\udfea is depicted wearing the nemes \ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udef4 head cloth and the false beard &#8211; typical fashion for a pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b! The sphinx \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udced\ud80c\udfe4 was a very popular way for a pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b to be represented, and this practice occurred for thousands \ud80c\uddbc\ud80c\uddbc\ud80c\uddbc of years.
