I love these displays at the MET because they have all \ud80c\udf9f of the scarabs \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udda3\ud80c\udfea grouped by the name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 of the pharaoh that is inscribed on them! These scarabs \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udda3\ud80c\udfea contain the throne name of the 18th Dynasty pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b Thutmosis III \ud80c\udd5d\ud80c\udd20\ud80c\udef4! I also love tiny things, so these displays are some of my favorites! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scarab \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udda3 is the personification is the god \ud80c\udeb9 Khepri \ud80c\udda3\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udc5b. The scarab \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udda3 amulets \ud80c\ude90\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udd46\ud80c\udfea were said to be the most powerful of amulets \ud80c\ude90\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udd46\ud80c\udfea because the the ancient Egyptians \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc00\ud80c\udc50\ud80c\udfea believed that the dung beetle (which the scarab \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udda3 was fashioned after) was capable of eternal regeneration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The god \ud80c\udeb9 Khepri \ud80c\udda3\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udc5b symbolizes a \u201clife cycle\u201d – birth \ud80c\udd1f, death \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1, and then rebirth \ud80c\udd1f\ud80c\udf7f\ud80c\udd71 in the afterlife \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50. This cycle was essential to Egyptian religious beliefs, as Egyptians \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc00\ud80c\udc50\ud80c\udfea spent their lives preparing for death \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1 and entering the Duat \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50 (afterlife).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
