Elephantine \ud80c\udf4b\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udcf0\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfb6\ud80c\ude0a is an island \ud80c\uddfe\ud80c\ude05\ud80c\udffa on the Nile River \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude17\ud80c\ude18\ud80c\ude07\ud80c\udffa, and it forms part of the city of Aswan \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udcf9\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfcc\ud80c\udff2\ud80c\ude96 in Upper Egypt \ud80c\uddd3! According to ancient Egyptian religion, Elephantine \ud80c\udf4b\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udcf0\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfb6\ud80c\ude0a was where the god \ud80c\udeb9 Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc2d lived and he controlled the waters \ud80c\ude17 of the Nile \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude17\ud80c\ude18\ud80c\ude07\ud80c\udffa from caves beneath the island \ud80c\uddfe\ud80c\ude05\ud80c\udffa!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Temple of Satet \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udf7f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd1d\ud80c\ude50 (or Satis \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd1d\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc2d) is on the island \ud80c\uddfe\ud80c\ude05\ud80c\udffa of Elephantine \ud80c\udf4b\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udcf0\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfb6\ud80c\ude0a and while it began to be built during the pre-dynastic period, it was rebuilt several times, most notably during the reign \ud80c\udefe\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf of Hatshepsut \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfb9\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd02\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3c\ud80c\udfea, and then the reign \ud80c\udefe\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf of Thutmosis III \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\udda3. They both mostly expanded the temple \ud80c\ude5f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50 and made it much larger. Two \ud80c\udffb of Thutmosis III\u2019s cartouches \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udf77\ud80c\udfe6 appear on this relief, so let\u2019s take a closer look at each of them! We are going to look at the throne name (\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\udda3) first!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\udda3 Menkhepperra \u201cLasting is the Manifestation of Re\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\uddf3 &#8211; Re&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udfe0 &#8211; Lasting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udda3 &#8211; Manifestation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s look at the birth name cartouche \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udf77! It\u2019s hard to see which variant is in the picture \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf but I think it\u2019s this one:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udd5d\ud80c\udd1f\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udda3 &#8211; Thutmosis III (Thoth is Born, Beautiful of Form)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udd5d &#8211; Thoth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udd1f\ud80c\ude83 &#8211; Born<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udd24 &#8211; Beautiful&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udda3 &#8211; Form<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underneath the cartouches, this famous phrase \u201c\ud80c\udef9\ud80c\udebd\ud80c\udf00\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udffa\ud80c\udfc7\u201d appears:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udef9 &#8211; Life&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udebd &#8211; Stability&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udf00 &#8211; Strength&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\uddf3 &#8211; Ra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udfc7 &#8211; Like<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This translates to \u201cLife, Stability, and Strength Like Ra.\u201d The extra \u201c\ud80c\udffa\u201d is there as an aesthetic placeholder!\u00a0All pharaohs \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b\ud80c\udfe6 wanted to be like Ra, so it is a fitting phrase to be put after the name of a pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I am standing with a relief which contains the cartouches of Thutmosis III \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\udda3 from Elephantine \ud80c\udf4b\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udcf0\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfb6\ud80c\ude0a!
