This inscription \ud80c\udfdf\ud80c\udfdb\ud80c\udfe5 is a little bit tricky to read at first because one of the symbols is actually upside down!! Since the &#8220;cloth on a pole \ud80c\udeb9&#8221; symbol is pointing to the left, that&#8217;s the direction we start reading from!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s take a look at what it actually says:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\ude7c &#8211; Great God<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udf9b &#8211; Ptah<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All \ud80c\udf9f together \ud80c\ude16\ud80c\ude97, the inscription \ud80c\udfdf\ud80c\udfdb\ud80c\udfe5 reads &#8220;Great God Ptah.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a closer look at each of the symbols:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201ccloth on a pole \ud80c\udeb9\u201c hieroglyph is an ideogram for the word god. \ud80c\udeb9 is also a triliteral phonogram, and represents the letters \u201cntr\u201d which may have been pronounced like \u201cneter.\u201d \ud80c\udeb9 Is also a determinative for \u201cgod.\u201d So the \u201ccloth on a pole \ud80c\udeb9\u201c symbol can function as all three types of hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea. If you see this symbol, you are most likely looking at a word that has to do with the gods \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cwooden column \ud80c\ude7c\u201d hieroglyph is a biliteral phonogram which represents the sound \u201c\u02c13.\u201d This symbol does have a variant, \ud80c\ude7b, which means the same, it\u2019s just oriented at a different angle!
