These elaborately decorated coffins \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea are very typical of this time period, and they\u2019re some of my favorite things to just sit and look at because the art is just exquisite!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"614\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/4BA7C92E-CD9C-464C-9C4F-14214604C537.jpeg?resize=580%2C614&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Osiris and the Four Sons of Horus\" class=\"wp-image-2496\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/4BA7C92E-CD9C-464C-9C4F-14214604C537.jpeg?resize=967%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 967w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/4BA7C92E-CD9C-464C-9C4F-14214604C537.jpeg?resize=283%2C300&amp;ssl=1 283w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/4BA7C92E-CD9C-464C-9C4F-14214604C537.jpeg?resize=768%2C814&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/4BA7C92E-CD9C-464C-9C4F-14214604C537.jpeg?w=1163&amp;ssl=1 1163w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Osiris and the Four Sons of Horus depicted on a mummiform coffin at the MET.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this image \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf, we can see the god \ud80c\udeb9 Osiris \ud80c\udc79\ud80c\udea8\ud80c\udc2d sitting in a shrine \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc9c\ud80c\ude50. If you look closely, the pillars that are holding up the shrine \ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc9c\ud80c\ude50 are actually \u201cDjed Pillars \ud80c\udebd\ud80c\udebd\ud80c\udebd\u201d which is significant because not only does \u201cDjed \ud80c\udebd\u201d mean \u201cstability\u201d in Middle Egyptian, but the Djed Pillar is also thought to represent the spine of Osiris \ud80c\udc79\ud80c\udea8\ud80c\udc2d!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s read some hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Osiris \ud80c\udc79\ud80c\udea8\ud80c\udc2d is not explicitly labeled with his name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 in hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea, we know it\u2019s him for a couple of reasons! He is depicted holding the crook \ud80c\udefe and flail \ud80c\udf05, which is very typical! In the hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea thought, we can see the title \u201cLord of Eternity \ud80c\udf9f\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udf9b\u201d which is always associated with Osiris \ud80c\udc79\ud80c\udea8\ud80c\udc2d! It\u2019s basically his nickname!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udf9f &#8211; Lord&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udf9b &#8211; Eternity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In front \ud80c\udfc3 of Osiris \ud80c\udc79\ud80c\udea8\ud80c\udc2d on the table, we can see the Four Sons of Horus! Not only are they usually shown together like this, but each one of them is labeled with their name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16! However, due to spacing, the names \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfe6 are a little abbreviated\/shortened from their usual forms!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s start reading from the right since that\u2019s the way the hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea in this section point:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\uddcb\ud80d\udc1d\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udf7f &#8211; Imseti (not shortened)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udf9b\ud80d\udc0d\ud80d\udc11- Hapi (\ud80c\udf9b\ud80d\udc11\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\uddcc)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd50\ud80c\udd91 &#8211; Duamutef (\ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd50\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd91)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udfc1\ud80c\udf22 &#8211; Qebehsenuef (\ud80c\udfc1\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udd91)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duamutef \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd50\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd91 and Qebehsenuef \ud80c\udfc1\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udd91 seem to be switched because Duamutef\u2019s \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd50\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd91 name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 appears before Qebehsenuef\u2019s \ud80c\udfc1\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udf22\ud80c\udd91 in the hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea but after him in the lineup!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is my personal photograph and original text.
