Today \ud80c\udfc7\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3 we are going to learn about the god \ud80c\udeb9 \u201cKhnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udc60!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udc60 is one of the oldest Egyptian deities \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9. The evidence of worship \ud80c\uddfc\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udc22 for Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc2d dates back to the First Dynasty and he was worshipped until the early centuries CE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc2d is the god \ud80c\udeb9 of the Nile River \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude17\ud80c\ude18\ud80c\ude07\ud80c\udffa and fertility. While there are other deities that are also gods \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9 of the Nile (Hapi \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udc9d\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\ude18) and fertility (Min \ud80c\udeca\ud80c\udebe), many Egyptian gods had many different roles and Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udc60 happens to be one of the most ancient. The Nile River \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude17\ud80c\ude18\ud80c\ude07\ud80c\udffa gives life \ud80c\udef9 to Egypt \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude96, hence why gods \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udeb9 of the Nile \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude17\ud80c\ude18\ud80c\ude07\ud80c\udffa were usually also associated with fertility.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the creation myth, Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udc2d is said to have created all of the world\u2019s people on his potter\u2019s wheel. He is associated with Ptah \ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udc71, who created the heavens \ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddef and Earth \ud80c\uddfe\ud80c\uddfe on a potter\u2019s wheel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Khnum \ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc2d is usually represented as a person with a ram head. I love how his name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 in hieroglyphs incorporates a pot since Khnum created people on his potter\u2019s wheel! Here are some of the common ways:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udc60 (can you spot this one in the picture?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udc2d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc2d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc60<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc2d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc60<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udfb8\ud80c\udcdd<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Let\u2019s break down the Khnum\u2019s name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The \u201cstone jug \ud80c\udfb8\u201d is a triliteral phonogram that is associated with the sound \u201c\u1e96nm\u201d which would be pronounced like \u201cKhnum.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Whenever the \ud80c\udfcf or the \ud80c\udd53 follow the stone jug in Khnum\u2019s name, they are acting as phonetic complements and would not be pronounced. The determinatives at the end of the name can also change between the \u201cseated god \ud80c\udc2d\u201d and the \u201cram headed \ud80c\udc60\u201d symbol.
