Today, we are going to start off with the first known ushabti \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e figure which is called a &#8220;wax ushabti&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"773\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?resize=580%2C773&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Wax Ushabtis\" class=\"wp-image-3175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?resize=1152%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1152w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?resize=1536%2C2048&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?resize=1200%2C1600&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3587.jpeg?w=1636&amp;ssl=1 1636w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Before ushabtis \ud80c\uddb7\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udf6f\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfee\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea we know and love evolved in the 12th Dynasty, wax \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udff8\ud80c\udfe6 figurines that looked like humans (and had their own mini coffins \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1\ud80c\udfe6) were placed in tombs \ud80c\uddcb\ud80d\udc2b\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\ude50\ud80c\udfea with the deceased \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1! They are known to Egyptologists as \u201cwax ushabtis.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">These precursor-ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea were made of beeswax and beeswax was said to have magical \ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udc93\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udfdc powers of protection \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc9d\ud80c\udfa1\ud80c\udc1c, resurrection, and regeneration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The figures are somewhat detailed and were wrapped in a linen cloth \ud80c\udf71 and placed in the mini-coffin \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1. The coffin \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1 did not identify any role or jobs that the figure had (like the text on a ushabti \ud80c\uddb7\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udf6f\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfee\ud80c\udc3e could identify what it\u2019s job was), but it did identify the name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 of the deceased \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1. Sometimes even the standard Offering Formula (\ud80c\uddd3\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udeb5\ud80c\udfd9 an offering the king gives) appeared on the mini-coffin \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1 as if it were a real one!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If these figures weren\u2019t workers, then what was their purpose? It is thought that this figure would take the place of the body should the body of the deceased \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1 be destroyed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Not many of these \u201cwax ushabtis\u201d have been found, especially in comparison to the amount of ushabtis \ud80c\uddb7\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udf6f\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfee\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea that have been found!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea evolved into the little worker figures we know today during the 12th Dynasty, but became very popular during the New Kingdom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This is my personal photograph and original text.
