As part of my \u201cUshabti Friends\u201d series, I am teaching you how to look at the different characteristics of ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e and how those characteristics can help you to narrow down the age\/time period that the ushabti \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e is from! Today we are going to look at Royal 18th Dynasty Ushabtis!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e we are going to look at today \ud80c\udfc7\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3 are royal ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e that all belonged to pharaohs \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b\ud80c\udfe6 from the 18th Dynasty! The 18th Dynasty is almost the \u201cgolden age\u201d of ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e because these little guys undergo much development during this time period and have so many different characteristics!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wooden ushabti \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e of Amenhotep III \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc67\ud80c\udfa0 is very interesting because it has a very distinct characteristic of 18th Dynasty ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e that is not just one found on royal ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a space in the hands where tools would have been inserted – such as a hoe \ud80c\udf38. Tools that were attached separately were only found in the 18th Dynasty! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rock based ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e of Amenhotep II \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udeb5\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udeaa and Akhenaten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5c\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16 are all seen holding Ankh symbols in their hands which are crossed over their chest in a mummiform fashion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have only seen royal ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e with Ankhs \ud80c\udef9! I find this to be commentary on the religion because a deceased pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b would not have to be doing work anyway – he probably was buried with ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e just in case! This is probably why some of the royal ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e have Ankhs \ud80c\udef9 and not tools!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e also have false beards and are wearing some type of royal crown to distinguish that they are pharaohs \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b\ud80c\udfe6!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
