Most of Seti I\u2019s \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udfe0 ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea were wood \ud80c\uddb1\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udffa and when Giovanni Belzoni discovered Seti I\u2019s tomb \ud80c\uddcb\ud80d\udc2b\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\ude50 in the Valley of the Kings in 1917, he used a lot of the wooden \ud80c\uddb1\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udffa ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea as torches (this fact still haunts me &#8211; it was also one of my Nonno\u2019s favorite stories to tell). His faience \ud80c\udee3\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff8\ud80c\udffc ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea are such a beautiful \ud80c\udd24 blue \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udc79\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd3f\ud80c\udff8\ud80c\udfe5 color and are inscribed with the Shabti Spell in hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5269.jpeg?resize=580%2C650&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Ushabtis of Seti I\" class=\"wp-image-3219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5269.jpeg?resize=914%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 914w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5269.jpeg?resize=268%2C300&amp;ssl=1 268w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5269.jpeg?resize=768%2C860&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5269.jpeg?resize=1200%2C1344&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5269.jpeg?w=1284&amp;ssl=1 1284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Some of the wooden \ud80c\uddb1\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udffa ushabtis \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\ude19\ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e\ud80c\udfea contain hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea as well, however, the hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea are better preserved on some pieces better than others because wood \ud80c\uddb1\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udffa will naturally deteriorate over time due to the nature of the organic materials.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">So how can we tell these are ushabtis of Seti I from the 19th Dynasty?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The ushabtis were found in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The ushabtis are inscribed with his throne name (\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udfe0) and birth name (\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udc63\ud80c\uddcc\ud80c\udf38\ud80c\ude16).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The ushabtis have characteristics of the 19th dynasty such as the faience ushabtis which are holding a hoe in each hand \ud80c\udf38 (typical of 18th-25th dynasties)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"701\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?resize=580%2C701&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Ushabtis of Seti I\" class=\"wp-image-3220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?resize=847%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 847w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?resize=248%2C300&amp;ssl=1 248w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?resize=768%2C929&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?resize=1270%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1270w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?resize=1200%2C1451&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5268.jpeg?w=1284&amp;ssl=1 1284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This is my personal photograph and original text.
