The West \ud80c\udec0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude0a is significant in ancient Egypt because the West \ud80c\udec0\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude0a is the realm of the dead. In a typical tomb chapel \ud80c\udc3b\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\ude50 built during the Old Kingdom, the West Wall would have a False Door and then scenes that would be typical of offering rituals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the ancient Egyptian religion\/culture, it was thought that the carvings on the walls of tombs \ud80c\uddcb\ud80d\udc2b\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\ude50\ud80c\udfea could come to life. Meat \ud80c\udd91\ud80c\udd39 was one of the most important offerings \ud80c\udca0\ud80c\udfcd that could be given to the deceased \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udff1 which is why this type of scene would be included in a tomb chapel \ud80c\udc3b\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\ude50.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">While you can probably tell that the people in this image \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf are butchering \ud80c\udc8b\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udf2a cattle \ud80c\udcd2\ud80c\udfe6, in case you did not know, the ancient Egyptians put it in the hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the image \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf, you can see the word \u201c\ud80c\udc8b\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udef4\u201d which means \u201cto slaughter\u201d or \u201cto butcher.\u201d This word can also be written as \u201c\ud80c\udc8b\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udf2a\u201d which is the same word but with the determinative at the end! I love these ancient Egyptian \u201ccaptions\u201d because there aren\u2019t a lot of hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea so it\u2019s not too overwhelming to translate if you\u2019re just starting out!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Let\u2019s read some hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea! Here is a breakdown of the inscription \ud80c\udeae\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udd91\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd91\ud80c\udd39:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udeae &#8211; to cook\/to bake<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udd91\ud80c\udfcf &#8211; bone marrow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud80c\udd91\ud80c\udd39 &#8211; meat<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This tomb chapel \ud80c\udc3b\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\ude50 is on display at the MET and is absolutely beautiful to go in and explore!
