These were used in the construction of the Aten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3 temple \ud80c\ude5f\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50 at Karnak (this construction started when he was still Amenhotep IV \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udeb5\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udefe\ud80c\udf00) and the palace \ud80c\udc9d\ud80c\udf9b\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude65\ud80c\ude50 at Akhetaten \ud80c\ude0c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\ude96. The top talatat shows an image of the pharaoh Akhenaten<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The top Talatat in the picture \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf was part of a much larger relief which was the pinnacle image of the time &#8211; Akhenaten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5e\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16 and the royal family (including Nefertiti \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\uddcd\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed) receiving \u201cAnkhs \ud80c\udef9\u201d which is the symbol for \u201cLife\u201d from the Aten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Talatat were unique because they were so small \ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udd93\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd69 that a single worker could carry one and put it into place. This was meant to expedite construction and make building a lot faster. The Talatat are also unique because they were only used during the reign \ud80c\udefe\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf of Akhenaten \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5e\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16, and were never used again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Even though originally from Amarna \ud80c\ude0c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude50\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\ude96, these Talatat were actually found in other places across Egypt \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude96.\u00a0 After Akhenaten\u2019s \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udd5e\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\ude16 reign \ud80c\udefe\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf, his monuments \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\udfcd were destroyed and building materials were used by other pharaohs \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b\ud80c\udfe6!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">I like to think of this as an ancient Egyptian recycling program! It&#8217;s truly fascinating to see not only how the ancient Egyptians procured some of their building materials, but also to understand the intent behind them. Since Akhenaten was to be &#8220;erased&#8221; from history, his monuments were destroyed and the materials repurposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This is my personal photograph and original text.
