Let\u2019s read some hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea! Today \ud80c\udfc7\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddf3 we are going to be looking at the word \u201cImage \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am always so excited to see the word “\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf” or \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3e\u201d appear in inscriptions! The reason I get so excited is because it was one of the first words I learned how to read in hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea and I remember being so proud that I knew what it meant!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf” or \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3e\u201d can appear with or without the determinative symbol!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what does \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3e\u201d mean? The word \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf,\u201d which can also be commonly written as \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\u201d or less commonly \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfdb\u201d can mean Image, Likeness, Statue, Figure, and Complete. The word has a phonetic value of \u201ctwt,\u201d but is inferred to be pronounced like \u201ctut.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s break down the symbols! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cflat loaf of bread \ud80c\udfcf\u201d is a uniliteral phonogram used to represent the sound \u201ct.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cQuail Chick \ud80c\udd71\u201d is uniliteral phonogram that is representative of the sound w\/u. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cMummy Standing \ud80c\udc3e\u201d symbol is both an ideogram and a determinative! The symbol is an ideogram for \u201ctwt – Statue and Likeness.\u201d It is a determinative for \u201cMummy, Statue, Likeness, and Form.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason why \u201c\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3e or \ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\u201d was one of the first words I learned how to read is because it appears in the cartouche of Tutankhamun \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udef9\ud80c\udefe\ud80c\ude7a\ud80c\uddd3! Tutankhamun\u2019s name means \u201cLiving Image of Amun.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
