I was so excited when I saw it, because Hatshepsut\u2019s \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udc93 throne name appears on it! Since I absolutely love anything to do with Hatshepsut \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udc93, I was incredibly excited to see something with her name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16 on it. I also think this piece is unpublished, so it was a total surprise for me to see that it even existed! Since her name \ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude16appears on the blade, it means that it was most certainly made during her time as pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it doesn\u2019t look like much, this piece is actually a bronze \ud80c\ude14\ud80c\udfe4\ud80c\ude12\ud80c\udfe6 blade that was once attached to a handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"580\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029-1024x1024.jpg?resize=580%2C580&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029.jpg?resize=1024%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029.jpg?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029.jpg?resize=1200%2C1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ancientegyptblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/275236686_4778425902211856_6525426246122185127_n_18190734610082029.jpg?w=1440&amp;ssl=1 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s read some hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udeb9 &#8211; Great God<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udc93) &#8211; Maatkare (Hatshepsut\u2019s Throne Name &#8211; translates to \u201cTruth \ud80c\udc66 is the Soul \ud80c\udc93 of Re \ud80c\uddf3.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16 &#8211; Amun<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udfc3\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udca6- Holiest of Holies (the name given to Hatshepsut\u2019s temple at Deir el-Bahri. It can also be written as \ud80c\udfc3\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\ude50 or most commonly as \ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udfe5\ud80c\ude50).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud80c\udf3a\ud80c\uddcc &#8211; Beloved<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put together, the inscription reads: \ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udeb9(\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udc93)\ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfc3\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udf3a\ud80c\uddcc \u201cThe Great God Maatkare, Beloved of Amun, Holiest of Holies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Hatshepsut \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfb9\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udd02\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc3c\ud80c\udfea is referred to as \u201cThe Great God \ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udeb9\u201d instead of the \u201cGreat Goddess \ud80c\udd24\ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udfcf\u201d as she usually is in inscriptions \ud80c\udfdf\ud80c\udfdb\ud80c\udfe5. I honestly think this is a spacing issue because the blade is so small \ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udd93\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd69. A lot of the words on this blade are the shortened version. For example, Amun is written as \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16 instead of \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udc2d, and Holiest of Holies is very shortened to the point of almost being unrecognizable (\ud80c\udfc3\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udca6 instead of \ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\udca6\ud80c\udfe5\ud80c\ude50). There are also many variations of Beloved \ud80c\udf3a\ud80c\uddcc, but this shortened version of the word is very commonly seen in inscriptions \ud80c\udfdf\ud80c\udfdb\ud80c\udfe5.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Believe it or not, this seemingly plain piece was probably one of my favorite objects that I saw in the Petrie Museum.
