Egypt \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude96 was considered to be two \ud80c\udffb distinct places &#8211; Upper \ud80c\uddd3 and Lower \ud80c\udda4 &#8211; before the unification. The denotations of Upper \ud80c\uddd3 and Lower \ud80c\udda4 Egypt \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude96 were still widely used though, and titles such as \u201cKing of Upper and Lower Egypt \ud80c\udda5\u201d and \u201cLord of the Two Lands \ud80c\udf9f\ud80c\uddff\ud80c\uddff\u201d that were used for thousands of years after Narmer \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddcb show how these ideas persisted. Narmer \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddcb is depicted here wearing the White Crown of Upper Egypt \ud80c\udd24\ud80c\uded1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The original function of this palette is unclear, however, what is interesting is that it shows some early indications of hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea! Though this is up for interpretation, let\u2019s take a look!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are so many things happening on this palette \ud80d\udc1d\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1 that it is impossible for me to explain it all so I chose some of my favorite things!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above Narmer \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddcb, you can see what seems to be his name (\ud80c\udda2\ud80c\udf4b). Next to the small figure on the left, you can see the hieroglyph \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03 of a daisy. The use of the daisy hieroglyph \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03 stopped but some scholars think it may mean \u201cHorus \ud80c\udd43\ud80c\udc2d.\u201d Narmer is holding a \ud80c\udf5b symbol, which is part of the word for \u201cservant \ud80c\udf5b\ud80c\udfe4\ud80c\udc00,\u201d so this may indicate that the words mean \u201cServant of Horus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A question that a lot of scholars who study early Egyptian palettes \ud80d\udc1d\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1\ud80c\udfe6 have to ask themselves is \u201cwhere do the pictures end and the words begin?\u201d &#8211; we will probably never know!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The British Museum has a cast of the Narmer \ud80c\udfe0\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\uddcb Palette \ud80d\udc1d\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddb1 that very much looks like the real thing!
