Here\u2019s another piece from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology! This is a really simple piece but I really like it! It probably caught my eye because it has the cartouche of Seti I \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udfe0 on it, and Seti I \ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udfe0 was one of my Nonno\u2019s favorite pharaohs \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b\ud80c\udfe6! The afternoon that Nonno and I spent exploring the Petrie Museum was one of the best days of my life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This piece is a fragment from a larger statue \ud80c\udd1a\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udfed\ud80c\udc3e. On the top part of the piece you can even see the bottom part of a broad collar \ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udef4\ud80d\udc0d\ud80c\udfba\ud80c\udedd. It is made of black \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udd53 basalt, which is an igneous rock \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude19. Basalt forms when lava solidifies on the Earth\u2019s surface or under the ocean. The entire ocean floor is made of basalt which means that it is is the most abundant rock \ud80c\uddcb\ud80c\ude16\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude19 on Earth (and Mars too)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea on this piece are very simple and easy to read!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud80c\uded4\ud80c\udfcf\u2026and Lower Egypt<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(\ud80c\uddf3\ud80c\udc66\ud80c\udfe0) – Maatmenra (Seti I – Maatmenra was his throne name)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usually the title of \u201cKing of Upper and Lower Egypt\u201d is written as \u201c\ud80c\udda5\u201d so it is interesting to see it written as \u201c\ud80c\uddd3\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uded4\ud80c\udfcf.\u201d In the hieroglyphs \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udf03\ud80c\udfea for this piece, the crown of Lower Egypt \ud80c\uded4 was used instead of the bee \ud80c\udda4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King of Upper and Lower Egypt \ud80c\udda5 can literally be translated to \u201cHe of the Sedge and the Bee,\u201d which is the title that usually preceded the prenomen, which was also known as the throne name or the royal name. The sedge \ud80c\uddd3 was the symbol for Upper Egypt while the bee \ud80c\udda4 was the symbol of Lower Egypt. This title was symbolic that the pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b was ruling over a united Egypt \ud80c\udd8e\ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\ude96. The first pharaoh \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\ude7b to have this title was the Pharaoh Den \ud80c\udca7\ud80c\ude16 during the First Dynasty!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
