The god Bes \ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd1c also appears above Horus\u2019 \ud80c\udd43\ud80c\udc2d head \ud80c\udc76\ud80c\udffa. Bes \ud80c\udcc0\ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udd1c was known to ward off evil and bad luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally, stela \ud80c\udf97\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udd93\ud80c\ude78 were used to commemorate the dead so this is almost like a protective amulet \ud80c\ude90\ud80c\udeaa\ud80c\udd46 in the form of a stela \ud80c\udf97\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udd93\ud80c\ude78. This cippus was used by the living for protection \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc9d\ud80c\udfa1\ud80c\udc1c. Since the Old Kingdom, Horus \ud80c\udd43\ud80c\udc2d was called upon as a defender against snake or scorpion bites. Placing the cippus on a wound would evoke its magical and healing powers. Cippus stela \ud80c\udf97\ud80c\udd71\ud80c\udd93\ud80c\ude78 like this were usually kept in homes \ud80c\ude50\ud80c\udffa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, cippus pieces have also been found in tombs \ud80c\uddcb\ud80d\udc2b\ud80c\ude83\ud80c\ude50\ud80c\udfea, so we can assume that the Egyptians thought it not only would help protect \ud80c\udd53\ud80c\udc9d\ud80c\udfa1\ud80c\udc1c the living, but the dead too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fun fact! The Middle Egyptian word for scorpion is \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddab which can be pronounced like \u201cSerket.\u201d Serket \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddab was a goddess \ud80c\udeb9\ud80c\udfcf who was represented by a scorpion and she was associated with healing, protection, and magic. Serket \ud80c\udef4\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\uddab could also be written like this: \ud80c\ude83\ud80c\udc8b\ud80c\ude0e\ud80c\udfcf\ud80c\udc50.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is known as a Magical Stela, or a cippus.
