This is Part ๐ป of my posts on the Amduat ๐๐ถ๐ ๐ญ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐!ย Please check out Post I first!
Here are some close up pictures ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ฆ of the Amduat ๐๐ถ๐ ๐ญ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ of a woman named Gautsoshen who lived during the 21st Dynasty. Sorry the pictures ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ฆ are a little blurry – it is difficult to get good pictures ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ฆ because of the way the display is!
The images ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ฆ on the papyrus ๐ ๐๐๐ illustrate the Duat ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐, which Gautsoshen (and other deceased people) would travel through with Ra ๐ณ๐บ๐ over the twelve ๐๐ป hours of the night ๐ผ๐๐๐.ย

The first picture (above) shows Gautsoshen standing before Osiris ๐น๐จ๐ญ and the goddess ๐น๐ Selket ๐๐๐๐๐. Selket ๐ด๐๐๐๐ซ is one of the four ๐ฝ goddesses ๐น๐น๐น๐ tasked with protecting the mummy.ย

The second picture (above) shows Ra ๐ณ๐บ๐ (and by default, Gautsoshen) descending into the Duat ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐, which is symbolically the sun ๐ณ๐บ setting in the west ๐๐๐๐. Many of the characters that dwell in the Duat are depicted, such as the two ๐ป lions ๐ณ๐น๐ฟ๐๐ช who represent the east ๐๐๐๐ญ and the west ๐๐๐๐.ย
Can you spot the variant for โAmduat ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐๐โ in this picture?!

The third picture (above) is a continuation of the second, and it shows two hare-headed deities. The female hare-headed deity is the goddess ๐น๐ Wenet/Unut ๐น๐๐๐, who had the titles โLady of the Hourโ and โThe Swift One.โ Her companion, the male hare god ๐น is actually one of the late-period depictions of Osiris ๐ฉ๐น. As a hare, he took the name Un-nefer/Wennefer ๐น๐ค๐ญ. While not a super popular goddess ๐น๐, ๐น๐๐๐ is mentioned in the Pyramid Texts and the Book of the Dead ๐๐๐๐ป๐ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐บ๐ผ๐บ, as well as the Amduat ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐๐.ย
A bunch of the variants for the word โDuat ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐โ appear on the papyrus ๐ ๐๐๐! Can you spot them?
