Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ! Today ππππ³ we are going to be looking at the name of the Egyptian god βHapy ππͺπ.β

Hapy ππͺπ was one of the Four Sons of Horus who had the heqd of a baboon and appeared mostly on Canopic Jars and in funerary inscriptions. Hapy πππͺπ was tasked with protecting π ππ‘π the lungs ππ΄π₯π ±πΊ!
Hapyβs ππͺπ name is very phonetic and uses many phonogram symbols to write it out! Letβs take a closer look at the name:
π – αΈ₯p
πͺ – p
π – y
Letβs break down the symbols:
The βpart of a ship πβ symbol is a biliteral phonogram for the sound βαΈ₯p.β
The βstool πͺβ symbol is a uniliteral phonogram for the sound βp.β Here it is acting as a phonetic complement, which is emphasizing the βpβ sound from βπ hp.β
The βdouble reed πβ symbol acts similarly to the βreed π.β When the symbol is doubled, it usually acts as a uniliteral phonogram with the sound of βy.β
Another very common way to write Hapy in hieroglyphs is βππͺππ.β
